A windy affair

A windy affair

Wind power has long been a much debated affair. However the fact remains that wind is free. This type of energy generation is very useful, particularly in areas that are far flung and have no access to power grids. There is no additional expenditure that needs to be incurred. It can easily be captured with the technology we have at our disposal today.

There is no need for further technological advancement that may add to the cost. While there may be some amount of pollution during its manufacture, once installed it does not generate any pollution or greenhouse gases. So if you consider the entire life span of a wind turbine, there is very little pollution being generated. The land it is set up on can be used for other things too, like cultivation, as it takes up very little space. The land can be put to dual use without any repercussions in the long term. It also comes in different sizes so a range of businesses and houses can use them.

I was surfing for pv panels essex, and realised that it is not without its detractors. The main argument is that wind does not blow at a consistent speed. So there may be times when no electricity is produced. But the point to be considered here is that these are usually installed only in places that are quite windswept. Such areas seldom have windless days.

Perhaps the day is not far off when electricity can safely be stored for use at a later time.
