Ban Crude Oil? Where To Go For Asphalt Then?

Is it advisable to condemn all youngsters of being antisocial simply because the recent riots in London were dominated by the young and educated? Obviously not. If so, why is it that people insist on dumping crude oil and using renewable sources of energy when petrol and diesel happen to be just two of the many substances extracted from crude oil?

What about kerosene which is used to fuel airplanes? How is the Boeing Jumbo Jet going to run on sun or wind power? What about asphalt which is used as a waterproof substance in roofing activities? It is also used on roads to ensure our vehicles travel smoothly.

If we are going to dump crude oil completely, we will have to find alternatives for all these solutions as well. Who knows how environmental friendly these alternatives will be? Once we adopt this approach, we discover that reducing petrol and diesel consumption is only going to solve the problem of transportation. We still need crude oil extraction and processing for various other activities. To completely ignore these activities is nonsensical.

Sadly, I find most supporters of environmentally friendly fuels are completely shortsighted on this matter. In fact, I have found persons who simply refuse to accept that asphalt and wax are products of crude oil. For a person who has worked in the diesel industry all his life, it can indeed be very frustrating to deal with such persons who claim to know everything about this industry. Would it not be nice if people admitted that they did not know everything about everything before opening their mouth?
